All Clear In One Respect, Murky In Another

Fi phoned me on my way to work yesterday with some good news - the re-excision margins are completely clear of any evidence of melanoma! This (hopefully) means that Fi is now cured of her melanoma (well, this one at least) which is fantastic news.
I don't like the fact that there is an 8% chance every four years of her developing another one but I guess you just have to work with the cards that life hands you.
Today was very boring and precipitated a mini career crisis. I spent the late shift in the B-clinic. The B-clinic at Noarlunga is essentially like a rapid-fire GP surgery (albeit with X-ray, suturing and plastering facilities) and was exceptionally dull today. Only two patients out of the twenty four that I saw today interested me. The first was a six-year old boy who had a really large wooden splinter lodged in his thigh that I excised under local (hands-down the best behaved kid I've ever come across). The second was meeting Sean Connery's doppelgänger - seriously.
Anyway, back to the career crisis. I phoned Andy (who's currently on holiday in Perth) and caught up with him briefly. He said to me that he thought:
Not what you want to hear when you're frantically trying to decide what you want to do with your life and had kind of settled on being a GP. I think settled is the key word there: I chose GP for lifestyle reasons but sitting in the B-clinic (which is essentially what the rest of my career would be like) made me realise that I needed to look long and hard at what career I want.
At the moment, I'm going to apply for three specialties: GP, ENT surgery and Anaesthetics. I'll let you know if (and when) the situation changes!
Thanks to Andy I've also decided that I'm going to buy a new car when I get back to the UK (well, perhaps not immediately...)

"it would be a travesty if you ended up as a GP"

I kind of mentioned that you would not like being a GP. I think the other options are more likely to suit your exploring mind. Your new blog looks very nice and is impressive, sorry, but i found the old one much easier to navigate particularly for the old entries.
