Trip Down Memory Lane
Sunday, November 23, 2008 at 10:58PM
I've just finished a three-shift run of nights at Noarlunga and it was a piece of cake. There were three of us on each night and the patient load was very small. I probably only saw five patients all last night. The most difficult thing is trying to stay awake! Fortunately, I had taken my MBP with me to work and it's trivial to plug it into the ethernet network at work and surf the web (the only thing that doesn't work is Mail and Facebook).
Since upgrading the site, I decided to re-tag all of my posts and I've now finished . This meant reading every single post that I have ever made: no mean feat. I really enjoyed it. It surprised me how much I seem to have enjoyed both medicine and A&E when I was doing them (despite my memory telling me that I hated them). I think I need to be more upbeat in my posts from now on as my recent ones have been somewhat "glass is half-empty". I had to smile when I realised that out of 476 tags "work" and "nights" are the second and third most common - how much of a grumpy bastard am I?
I was reminded of this site by one of my older posts. It really is worth checking out. It essentially groups together the current most popular links on the web. It's useful if you find yourself always reading the same tripe over and over again.
I've also improved the blog's archive. Anit pointed out that he liked the old calender view (so he could easily see when I had posted) and so I've made a pretty cool-looking calender-based page that (I think) is really easy to navigate. Take a look and let me know what you think.
Fi has gone off to work (her fifth and final night shift) - she's a trooper but she's too soft. The night before last the RMO (i.e. the only other doctor on overnight with her and her junior) called in sick and the reserve doctor was unavailable so she was the only doctor on all night in the ED - shocking! Just to rub salt into an already gaping wound - the aforementioned RMO rocked up to work last night and fell asleep for 3:30 hours! I can't believe Fiona didn't wake her up! I've told her to bollock her this evening.
We've got to see the dermatologist tomorrow afternoon after Fi has had a sleep so I'm not sure how much fun there is to be had. Hopefully we'll get a chance to carry on picking which photos to put in our wedding album as the proofs book arrived the other day from our wedding photographer. He truly is a master - I look normal in most of them!
