Normality

Do you know what I’m currently enjoying? A little bit of normality, that’s what. For the first time in what seems like an eternity – Fi and I are actually getting to spend some time together! Fi is working normal 9 to 5 shifts this week (as am I) and we both have the weekend off. It’s great to not have any specific plans and just enjoy each others company.

My weekend was extremely unproductive. I was home alone as Fiona was working and, rather than do something useful (like paint the hallway/stairs) I decided to play on the PS3 for several hours. I remember a time when I used to rock at video games but my 28-year-old reflexes just don’t seem to cut the mustard with all the 12-year-olds that seem to inhabit the online multiplayer universe! I did try and do something worthwhile on Sunday by driving to IKEA and then to Cribbs to look for a telephone stand and some curtain poles but I was thwarted on both counts by horrendous Bristol traffic and hoardes of other Bristolians with similar ideas – that was three hours of my weekend that I’ll never see again.

Yesterday was a relatively interesting day at work. I spent the morning in theatre with my two registrars and I got to perform almost all of a dynamic hip screw myself which was fun (not to mention bloody!). Today has been pretty tiring in that I had to give the induction to the three new F2s and the new F1 as well as see every outlying Orthopaedic patient.

I’m probably going to be going out for a few beers with some of the other Orthopaedic SHOs for some male bonding which’ll be nice. As for tonight though – I’m going to spend it with my wife.
