Plugs, Wires, Cables, Sockets And Switches Galore!
I love gadgets and gadgets love power.
I met with the electrician yesterday lunchtime at the house (read: bomb site). He seems like a really nice guy (as do all the chaps Urbane Building deal with). His name’s Duncan and he runs a company called Robertson Electrical Contracting.
Here’s the list of what I’ve asked him to do (and he has said should all be possible):
- Add seven power sockets to the lounge (some relocation, some converting to twin outlets)
- Formalise the TV aerial into a TV socket in the lounge
- Relocate the master phone socket in the lounge
- Remove the wall lights in the lounge / dining room and convert to dimming ceiling mounted spotlights
- Add a light switch to the dining room
- Change faceplates on light and power sockets in the hallway
- Add ten power sockets, light switch, a phone port and a TV port to the media cupboard
- Add an under-stairs light
- Add seven power sockets to the garage including one on the ceiling for the projector (yippee!)
- Provide wiring for the kitchen
That’s a lot of work. God knows how over-budget the quote will be. I should find out today. He is a little concerned about the state of the existing wiring as it certainly odd. When the builders fashioned a hole in the side of the garage to act as the new doorway they also discovered all of the power cable for upstairs running through the wall. They are going to have to be relocated somehow although it doesn’t look like they have enough reach to be simply moved. That should be interested.
The builders plan for the week is to mount the door frames for the kitchen/WC door and the garage door and to begin construction of the suspended timber floor in the garage/cinema.
After Fi finished work yesterday, we headed back up to Sofa Workshop on Whiteladies Road and settled on the couch for the cinema. I’m going for “Storm Grey”. The couch is a large three seater and also opens up into a sofa bed. Delivery is going to take about 8 weeks. Not to worry though, I can’t imagine the cinema will be finished by then anyway…
